In addition to this make sure you backup the VM to an external disk. Disable Autoprotect and create a snapshot only when needed and while the VM is powered off. Regarding your question about what to do. With 2 GB of RAM assigned to the VM, the snapshot creates a 2 GB file which preserves the current state.
